THE ORDER OF NATURE - Screening Series

THE ORDER OF NATURE
Screening Series
April 23 - May 7 - May 14

Presented by LADP & François Ghebaly Gallery
Curated by Andrea Franco

At a moment when we have become aware of humanity’s negative impact on the earth, we also seem to be moving towards an understanding of nature as indivisible from us. Nature responds to us, to our connection with it, to how we interfere with it, and to the myths that surround it.

The three part screening series reflects on our relationship with nature, the current state of the Anthropocene, and the psychic space shared between film and nature. The works offer distinctive ways to see and think about the world, and an opportunity to detach from the currently reality in order to connect to it in a renewed way.

With works by Ana Vaz, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Carolina Caycedo, Felipe Esparza, Fern Silva, Heather Trawick, James Benning, Karissa Hahn, Lois Patiño, Malena Szlam, Maya Watanabe, Neil Beloufa, Salome Lamas, Shanna Yates and Sophia Al Maria.

Tuesday, May 14th
8pm - Free

Lab 1 - Rep Your Region

"Lab 1" is an experimental Hip Hop Dance Lab focusing on the relationship between region and style aesthetics in Hip Hop/Street Dance culture. The term "region" applies to geography, the body and the interpretation of the participant. This workshop is open to dance artists with a deep curiosity of Hip Hop/Street Dance technique. An intermediate/advanced level of dance experience is recommended. The two-hour workshop will begin with a focus on groove and technique, followed by an exploratory practice of how these elements fit into a Repertory process.

This public workshop will be curated by Nina Flagg (Cal Arts Hip Hop Dance Faculty). It is open to participants and observers. Please be advised that mature language and subject matter will be addressed during the workshop

MOON MOVEMENT + ELECTRONIC SOUND BATH

Join former LADP Choreographic Resident Stephanie Zaletel | szalt for an evening of Moon-inspired movement meditations, guided improvisations, and sound. Connect to a deeper sense of peace, joy, curiosity, and health through personal creativity, sonic saturation, and group dance culminating into deep restoration. Following a Seattle tour of their celebrated evening-length moon&, this workshop on March 3rd will center around the waning crescent Moon phase. This experience ends in a transcendent electronic sound bath performed live by composers Louis Lopez and Jonathan Snipes. Bring a blanket, warm layers, or anything comfortable to lie on or share!

Sunday March 3, 2019
7-9pm

Open to all ages and all bodies.
Wear clothing you can move and sweat in and plenty of water.

*About the moon on March 3, 2019:
Waning Crescent Moon in Aquarius
The relationship to our emotions might be more complicated - the Moon in Aquarius inspires a desire for emotional freedom. However, when you are in a group of people, it is easier for you to understand your feelings and free yourself from negative emotions such as fear, anger and jealousy.

Body spaces influenced by Aquarius Moon Sign:
Calf, ankle, shin, Achilles, forearm muscles, thyroid hormones.
These organs are now more sensitive so we will provide them with extra care.
