About the Fund
The Santa Barbara Fund for New Choreography, founded by Benjamin Millepied and Jennifer Smith, has been established to support the creation of new dance works for L.A. Dance Project, a contemporary dance company and cultural hub known for its artistic innovation and excellence. Under the artistic direction of renowned dancer, choreographer and director Benjamin Millepied, LADP creates forward thinking work through collaboration and experimentation, inspiring audiences and advancing dance as a transformative art form in California and beyond.

Proceeds from the Fund will help commission new choreographic works that will be presented at venues throughout the Santa Barbara area and tour internationally, carrying the generosity of the Santa Barbara name and the creative spirit of this community to audiences around the world.

Why New Choreography?
Santa Barbara has long been a place where the arts are supported with intention, generosity, and vision. The Santa Barbara Fund for New Choreography extends this legacy by investing directly in the creation of new dance works, works that begin in the studio, take shape through collaboration, and travel to audiences far beyond their first showing.

New choreography is essential to the future of the art form. It allows artists to explore new ideas, respond to the world around them, and push dance forward. By supporting this process, the Fund ensures that Santa Barbara plays a meaningful role in contributing to the next chapter of contemporary dance.

Each commissioned work becomes a reflection of this community’s commitment to creativity. These works will carry the generosity, spirit, and cultural leadership of Santa Barbara to audiences around the world.
