L.A. Dance Project is passionate about creating a safe space for young dancers to express themselves while nurturing their unique voices and encouraging them to make new discoveries about themselves.
Since 2019, LADP has partnered with Everybody Dance LA! (EDLA!), a local nonprofit organization that serves more than 4,000 students annually to transform lives and communities through the power of high-quality dance education in low-income areas of Los Angeles.
The core of this partnership is the LADP x EDLA! Summer Dance Intensive, where EDLA! students come to L.A. Dance Project’s performance theater and studio to train with LADP instructors and guest faculty five days per week for six hours a day. Students develop their technical abilities and artistry, and the daily schedule includes ballet, modern dance technique classes, self-expression movement exploration, a reflection period, and rehearsal for the creation of a new dance piece that will be performed at the culmination of the Intensive.
Throughout the Summer Intensive, masterclasses are given by guest artists as well as yoga, college and career workshops. Past Intensives have included masterclasses in hip hop, bharatanatyam, and Korean folk dance, among others, as well as a collaboration with L.A. Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra LA.
Following the Summer Intensive course, all students, instructors and alumni of The Everybody Dance! Program receive access to LADP’s dance instruction app in order to further build their dance education.
Following the success of the Summer Dance Intensive, the LADP x EDLA! programming has evolved into a year-round partnership that includes dedicated student matinees, artist talk backs, master classes and mini-Intensives to expand upon the impact and relationship between the students and LADP company.
The L.A. Dance Project’s Summer Dance Intensive, in partnership with Everybody Dance LA! is made possible through the generous support of The Eloise Susanna Gale Foundation and The Danny and Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation.
