OLD We Are.

L.A. Dance Project is a boundary-expanding non-profit dance company under the Artistic Direction of Benjamin Millepied. Founded in 2012, we opened the doors to our studio and performance space in Los Angeles’ downtown arts district in 2017.

Through new commissions, revivals of choreographic masterpieces, and our efforts to support local emerging artists, foster community partnerships, and uplift dance education, L.A. Dance Project serves as a central hub for audiences and artists alike. Our mission is to create, perform, and present exceptional and accessible dance in Los Angeles and around the world.

Benjamin Millepied (Bordeaux, 1977) is a choreographer, filmmaker, and former principal dancer with New York City Ballet. Millepied studied Classical Ballet with Vladimir Skouratoff at the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux, and later at the School of American Ballet with Stanley Williams and Adam Luders, before joining the New York City Ballet in 1995 were he was later promoted to Principal Dancer.

His choreographic work began in 2001 and he soon after founded a pick-up troupe, Danses Concertantes, before serving as choreographer-in-residence at The Baryshnikov Arts Center. Since 2005, he has choreographed for some of the preeminent global companies including the New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Berlin Staatsoper, and Dutch National Ballet, among others.

In 2012, Benjamin Millepied moved to Los Angeles and co-founded L.A. Dance Project with Charles Fabius with the vision to create a new model for a dance organization in America, from both an artistic and economic perspective.

Artistic Director & Co-Founder

Lucinda Lent joined L.A. Dance Project (LADP) in 2019 as Executive Director, overseeing management of all operations and working closely with Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied to advance the company as a dynamic leader on LA’s cultural landscape.

Lent’s first move was to initiate a complete overhaul of the company’s finances, resulting in the eligibility and award of a one million dollar grant in 2020. Facing the challenges brought on by the global pandemic, Lent led an in-house team to develop and launch LADP Digital, a digital dance platform and long term goal of Millepied. The APP was listed as a Top 5 Dance App by The Washington Post in 2021. Prioritizing the well-being of the dancers and staff, Lent achieved another milestone: health insurance for the whole company.

Prior to LADP, Lucinda founded and created The COOP, the modern play-and-party space that has become a household name in Los Angeles. After securing additional funding on ABC’s hit show Shark Tank, Lucinda began expanding the COOP vision through opening franchises. Within eight years of opening its doors, in 2017 the COOP was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the ‘Top 10 franchise opportunities of all businesses selected by Shark Tank investors’.

Lucinda began her career in Los Angeles working at Sony Pictures as the assistant to legendary Hollywood Producer Stanley Jaffe.

Lucinda took that experience and worked for several more years in the film industry as a commercial producer. Eventually her reputation led her to producing several award-winning commercials with directing luminaries such as Robert Altman, Joel and Ethan Cohen, and Albert Brooks.

LADP is grateful to the following organizations and individuals who first recognized the company’s potential and invested in its future as a revolutionary force in the dance world. Their crucial early support laid the groundwork for LADP’s subsequent growth and development under the artistic direction of Benjamin Millepied. We thank our Founders for believing in LADP from the beginning and for helping it evolve into the innovative and imaginative arts organization it is today.
